This 3-credit graduate course is designed to provide a practical, hands-on opportunity for Middle and Secondary level Social Studies and English teachers interested in taking advantage of the latest and most innovative technologies to become more efficient practitioners, to improve student outcomes, and to promote greater communication and collaboration beyond the classroom walls. Participants will learn how to take advantage of a growing number of amazing web-based resources including lesson plans, primary sources, images, photographs, art, music, interactive and videos. They will also learn how to create and manage their own digital space to better organize course materials and improve communication and workflow.
The Vermont State Proficiency Based Graduation Requirements (PBGR’s) and the Common Core State Standards will be reviewed and integrated into our practice. Participants will manage their learning through the creation of a Personalized Learning Plan (PLP) and will be encouraged to share their growth with a final reflection and exhibition of learning.
Participants have the option of bringing whatever technology they currently use at their school, either a laptop, iPad or Chromebook, or they can choose to pay the higher course rate to include the cost of the iPad mini or Chromebook.
Book Included: Make It Stick: The Science of Successful Learning by Peter C. Brown
